Clindamycin Capsule and Injection is also sometimes used to treat malaria (a serious infection spread by mosquitoes in some parts of the world) and to prevent infection in people who are having certain types of surgery. Important Safety of Clindamycin Capsule and Injection :

-Clindamycin only works against bacteria; it does not treat viral infections .

-Be sure to use Clindamycin Capsule and Injection for the full course of treatment. If you do not, the medicine may not clear up your infection completely. The bacteria could also become less sensitive to this or other medicines. This could make the infection harder to treat in the future.

-Long-term or repeated use of Clindamycin Capsule and Injection may cause a second infection. Tell your doctor if signs of a second infection occur. Your medicine may need to be changed to treat this.

-This product may contain tartrazine dye. This may cause an allergic reaction in some patients. If you have ever had an allergic reaction to tartrazine, ask your pharmacist if your product has tartrazine in it.

Mild diarrhea is common with antibiotic use. This may develop while you use the antibiotic or within several months after you stop using it. Contact your doctor right away if stomach pain or cramps, severe diarrhea, or bloody stools occur. Do not treat diarrhea without first checking with your doctor. Use Clindamycin Capsule and Injection with caution in the ELDERLY; they may be more sensitive to its effects, especially diarrhea. Use Clindamycin with extreme caution in CHILDREN younger than 10 years old who have diarrhea or an infection of the stomach or bowel. Clindamycin injection is indicated in the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria. Clindamycin injection is also indicated in the treatment of serious infections due to susceptible strains of streptococci, pneumococcal, and staphylococci. Its use should be reserved for penicillin-allergic patients or other patients for whom, in the judgment of the physician, penicillin is inappropriate. Because of the risk of antibiotic-associated pseudo membranous colitis, as described in the WARNING box, before selecting clindamycin the physician should consider the nature of the infection and the suitability of less toxic alternatives.

Bacteriologic studies should be performed to determine the causative organisms and their susceptibility to clindamycin. Indicated surgical procedures should be performed in conjunction with antibiotic therapy. The dose of clindamycin will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of clindamycin. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so. The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine.

For clindamycin capsules, the usual dosage for adults ranges from 150 mg to 450 mg every six hours, depending on the particular infection. For the inject able form, typical doses range from 1200 mg up to 2700 mg total per day, divided into two to four smaller doses per day. The maximum capsule dosage is 1800 mg per day; the maximum inject able dosage is 4800 mg per day. For serious infections, clindamycin is often combined with other antibiotics.

Clindamycin is an antibiotic. It is an active ingredient in many different prescription medications. The medication comes in many different forms, such as capsules, lotions or gels, vaginal suppositories, or as an injection. It is used to treat a variety of different infections. Clindamycin Capsule and Injection belongs to a group of antibiotics known as lincosamides and works by inhibiting bacterial ribosomes (ribosomes are parts of cells that make proteins). By inhibiting ribosomes, the drug interferes with the ability of bacteria to make proteins, which is necessary for bacteria to grow and multiply. Clindamycin specifically inhibits the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome. Because human cells do not have a 50S subunit, they are spared from the effects of the antibiotic.

Clindamycin Capsule and Injection is used to treat certain types of bacterial infections, including infections of the lungs, skin, blood, female reproductive organs, and internal organs. Clindamycin is in a class of medications called lincomycin antibiotics. It works by slowing or stopping the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics such as clindamycin will not kill the viruses that cause colds, flu, and other infections. Clindamycin Capsule and Injection comes as a capsule and a solution (liquid) to take by mouth. It is usually taken three to four times a day. The length of your treatment depends on the type of infection you have. Take clindamycin at around the same times every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand.

Clindamycin Capsule and Injection is also sometimes used to treat acne and is used along with other medications to treat anthrax (a serious infection that may be deliberately spread as part of a terror attack) and malaria.
